Tons of music streamed free. Mucho live stuff. Playlists. Snappy flash interface. No need to even register. Seriously, I’m not seeing a downside. Nearly perfect.
Update. Some protips:
-Click an album name to get at full albums easier, plus they’re then sorted by track number ready to play all.
-You can email or bookmark the URLs of albums, artists, queries etc.
-There’s also an embedding widget, here.
-Add a Firefox search for Grooveshark by hitting the search dropdown in the upper right and picking ‘Add “Grooveshark Search”‘
-The RADIO button in the lower right is your new Pandora.
-Their FAQ here.
The new Danger Mouse album is “out”, and it’s pretty fantastic. Due to a dispute with his label EMI, it won’t actually be released. Apparently there will be a 100+ page booklet featuring photos by David Lynch, with a blank CD-R included in the package. No word on when. “For Legal Reasons, enclosed CD-R contains no music. Use it as you will.”
The Iggy Pop track is my favorite so far, the lyrics are classic: “I’m a mix of god and monkey”
Hear the album streamed here, (download those tracks here? or full stream in 1). Or find it torrentially which I believe is better quality, @160kbps.
The album features: Iggy Pop, Wayne Coyne (the Flaming Lips), Frank Black (the Pixies), James Mercer (the Shins), Julian Casablancas (the Strokes), Gruff Rhys (Super Furry Animals), Jason Lytle (Grandaddy), Nina Persson (Cardigans), Vic Chestnut, Suzanne Vega, David Lynch
Back in October, Joaquin Phoenix announced that he’s quitting the acting to follow music pursuits:
…
Ok, but who thought it’d result in this?:
This is pure genius, my hat’s off to the guy. I wonder what the documentary of this “experiment” of his will be like (currently being filmed, by his brother-in-law Casey Affleck). According to an unnamed source, he’s basically admitted it’s all an elaborate gag: “It’s a put-on. I’m going to pretend to have a meltdown and change careers, and Casey is going to film it.”
