Martha Stewart: totally baked

martha-ripped

Update: This was actually COMPLETELY lame.  Not only was the Gawker vid apparently doctored so that her speech seem slurred, but as far as I can tell the only part about the episode that was remotely about pot was the intro.  All they did was sip a little vino and cook up 1 metric ton of pork. Here are the parts on YouTube if you feel like being bored.  Part 1 , Part 2 , Part 3

Yesterday Martha Stewart did a show all about pot I guess, and had Jimmy Fallon on as a guest.  But it was only on for a few seconds before it was preempted by some crap Catholic news?  (in NY at least).  She was obviously blasted.  I really want to see this whole show..  apparently it did air in full in some areas.   Hopefully it shows up torrentially.  Apparently I can’t embed this Gawker vid, so you’ll have to click there to see it.

Adam Carolla show cancelled, but he’s putting out free daily podcasts

I used to listen to a pretty steady stream of old bootlegged Loveline radio shows which I got from a friend at work, so needless to say I’m a fan of Adam Carolla.   Back in 2005 he jumped from that ship to fill the void that Howard Stern left in the major corporate terrestrial radio morning show markets.  I never got into that, mainly because there wasn’t a local affiliate in the sticks I lived in at the time, but I also figured I would miss Dr. Drew and the hilariously dumb callers with their sometimes-amazing sexual and drug related topics.  But at the same time Loveline without Adam became unlistenable to me as well.

Well, The Adam Carolla Show was canceled last week amidst the station’s format change to yet another Top40 station, and his workaholic ass has decided to immediately start pumping out free daily podcasts.  Probably to keep the head of steam rolling on the expanded following he’s been enjoying.  After listening to the first two, I gotta say I’m pretty excited about it.  There is a major potential for sweetness here being sans commercials, censorship, and bullshit programming directors.  Check it and spread it:

Adam Carolla Podcasts

Here’s a link to it in iTunes

edit: for some reason my related posts plugin below grabbed some random iPhone post.  But if you have an iPhone you can also get Adam’s podcast directly:  Go to iTunes on iPhone, tap search on the bottom, and enter Adam Carolla.

Tips for the Firefox search box

firefoxsearch

The search box in the upper right of Firefox should be a staple for you.  Here are some things you may not have known.

  1. Ctrl-K gives it focus.
  2. If you want to remove or re-order the searches, go to ‘Manage Search Engines’ under the dropdown.
  3. You can also ‘Get more search engines..’ from that same Manage Search Engines screen.  It takes you to an add-on subpage; just key in the site you’d like to find a search for, e.g. IMDB.
  4. Sometimes while web browsing you may notice that the dropdown in the search box will glow blue (color may depend on your theme).  This indicates that you can add a search for that site very quickly to your search bar.  Look for the option under the dropdown.  There aren’t many sites which feature this ability, but CNN is one example.
  5. You can assign a keyword to a search on the Manage Search Engines page.  They work like this: you pick a few letters for a keyword, e.g. asd for IMDB, then you can type the keyword followed by your search terms in your address bar to quickly perform that search, e.g. ‘asd tom cruise’.   Note that you can also do this directly from basically any search box you find on the net, by right-clicking in it and selecting ‘Add keyword for this search’.   Ctrl-L gives address bar focus.
  6. You can update the Google icon to their new favicon by following the directions here.

Zeitgeist, The Movie

This is an interesting documentary. Entertaining, however I think a lot of it may be BS.

Super sick electric car: Shelby Ultimate Aero EV

shelby EV electric front small shelby EV electric back small

shelby EV electric right top small shelby electric EV right side

Leave it to Shelby to blow the [electric car] world out the water with this beast.  With 1000hp, top speed of 208mph and a 0-60 of only 2.5 seconds, this thing is sure to get you the company softball game quickly.

The most exciting thing to me though is they have technology which will allow it to be recharged in as little as 10 minutes.  So while it has the typically short electric car range of 150-200 miles, 10 minutes isn’t really any longer than you’d spend at a gas station.  Long distance travel could be possible.

Isn’t the majority of our electric produced from fossil fuels though?  Why haven’t we gotten with that whole nucular thing.

Joaquin Phoenix raps, falls off stage

joaquin

Back in October, Joaquin Phoenix announced that he’s quitting the acting to follow music pursuits:

Ok, but who thought it’d result in this?:

This is pure genius, my hat’s off to the guy. I wonder what the documentary of this “experiment” of his will be like (currently being filmed, by his brother-in-law Casey Affleck). According to an unnamed source, he’s basically admitted it’s all an elaborate gag: “It’s a put-on. I’m going to pretend to have a meltdown and change careers, and Casey is going to film it.”

Update1: He claims it’s no Hoax

Update2: His goofy Letterman performance:

I think it’s definitely drugs.

Fmr. Seattle Police chief talks about marijuana prohibition

It’s funny that in Seattle they prioritize jaywalking over marijuana.. I jaywalk all the time! I moved here the week after Hempfest but I hear it’s quite the scene. If you click to the YouTube video page, they have a lot of excellent links in the sidebar.

Hemp could remove U.S. dependence on foreign oil?

Not sure if this ^ is true, but hemp does have the potential to screw over so many industries if it were just allowed to grow. Drug companies, chemicals, cotton, timber, etc. The ironic part is weed is already America’s #1 cash crop.  (See also this about California’s #1 industry, pot)

How to mute Firefox (or any app) with Vista

mutefirefox2

Trick I’ve discovered in Vista for muting just Firefox, say if you’re playing a flash game with no mute button on it and you want to hear your iTunes..

1: Click speaker icon

2: Click Mixer

3: Put your junk in that box

Not only is selectively muting apps highly useful, but this is also the place where you can permanently change the relative volume of anything which doesn’t have a volume knob.

Addendum 11/12/09: Now Ubuntu 9.10 has come on board with this capability.  Right click the sound icon and enter Sound Preferences (or via System->Preferences->Volume Control).   It’s on the Applications tab:

Nice little collection of flash games I recently found.  There is some quality here.  Easy way to waste some time.  Brought to you by Gamefly.com I guess.  May I recommend Armor Picross 2, Arrival in Hell, and Baseball.  See anything you like there?  Why not Post a Comment..
