…nevermind

Nevermind is not actually a word of course, but it’s very commonly used.  Is this due to Nirvana, or would it occur if they never existed?  Are people who use nevermind consciously aware of their misspelling?  I am.

Grooveshark is my new favorite website

grooveshark2

Tons of music streamed free.  Mucho live stuff.  Playlists.  Snappy flash interface.  No need to even register.  Seriously, I’m not seeing a downside.  Nearly perfect.

Thom Yorke track, Hearing Damage

A part of the “new moon” soundtrack. What a beat.

A tear in the membrane
Allows the voices in
They wanna push you off the path
With their frequency wires

And you can do no wrong
In my eyes (x2)
You can do no wrong
In my eyes (x2)

A drunken salesman
Your hearing damage
Your mind is restless
They say you’re getting better
But you dont feel any better

Your speakers are blowing
Your ears are wrecking
Your hearing damage
You wish you felt better (x2)

You can do no wrong
In my eyes (x2)
You can do no wrong
In my eyes (x2)
In my

In my eyes (x3)

And another new Radiohead song, potentially leaked. “These Are My Twisted Words”

Another great new Radiohead track, this one is potentially leaked somehow/someway. Thom has recently said he doesn’t see a new Radiohead album any time in the near future, but they’re apparently not staying away from the studio.

these are my twisted words
when i feel you still walking
i know i should not look down
but i’m so sick of just talking

when are you coming back
i just can’t handle it
when are you coming back
i just can’t handle it

when are you coming back
i just can’t stand it
i just can’t handle it

update: Jonny made a post about it, and posted download links

A new Radiohead track, and a new Thom Yorke track

Harry Patch (In Memory Of)
A few weeks ago the remaining living British WWI veteran, Harry Patch, passed away at age 111(!). Thom was inspired to write a song about the gentleman based on a radio interview he heard a few years ago, and I guess they recorded this recently. Lyrics and a link to download are available on their site.

All For the Best
A cover Thom did for the Mark Mulcahy tribute album “Ciao My Shining Star” due out next month.  This is a very tight track in the vein of Eraser, and I guess his brother is actually  on backup vocal.  (Thanks, pitchfork!)

Danger Mouse new disc is quite great, and ‘free’

dangerlynch

The new Danger Mouse album is “out”, and it’s pretty fantastic.  Due to a dispute with his label EMI, it won’t actually be released.  Apparently there will be a 100+ page booklet featuring photos by David Lynch, with a blank CD-R included in the package.  No word on when.  “For Legal Reasons, enclosed CD-R contains no music. Use it as you will.”

The Iggy Pop track is my favorite so far, the lyrics are classic:  “I’m a mix of god and monkey”

Hear the album streamed here, (download those tracks here? or full stream in 1).  Or find it torrentially which I believe is better quality, @160kbps.

The album features: Iggy Pop, Wayne Coyne (the Flaming Lips), Frank Black (the Pixies), James Mercer (the Shins), Julian Casablancas (the Strokes), Gruff Rhys (Super Furry Animals), Jason Lytle (Grandaddy), Nina Persson (Cardigans), Vic Chestnut, Suzanne Vega, David Lynch

Joaquin Phoenix raps, falls off stage

joaquin

Back in October, Joaquin Phoenix announced that he’s quitting the acting to follow music pursuits:

Ok, but who thought it’d result in this?:

This is pure genius, my hat’s off to the guy. I wonder what the documentary of this “experiment” of his will be like (currently being filmed, by his brother-in-law Casey Affleck). According to an unnamed source, he’s basically admitted it’s all an elaborate gag: “It’s a put-on. I’m going to pretend to have a meltdown and change careers, and Casey is going to film it.”

See also Joaquin’s Myspace

Update1: He claims it’s no Hoax

Update2: His goofy Letterman performance:

I think it’s definitely drugs.

Aquarium Drunkard has posted a set of MP3s from Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan’s recording sessions from 1969 in Nashville.  They’re a bit raw, but pure genius.
